Tiger Moth G-AHVU

When the decision was taken to carry out a total restoration of G-AHVU, before we could begin work we had to formulate a plan. Even a relatively simple aircraft such as a Tiger Moth is made up of many hundreds of individual components, all of which required varying processes applying to them.

Some metal fittings just needed aesthetically refurbishing, with paint stripping, sand blasting and then spraying with layers of primers and top coats. Some required more intensive cadmium plating, x-raying and other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes, prior to cosmetic refurbishing.

Woodwork was all stripped of old layers of paint and dope using old fashioned elbow grease and sandpaper and all the old fabric be it natural linen or man-made ceconite was removed.

After the messy and physical work of refurbishing and the precise work of checking and testing each component, we were left with a set of renewed components ready to rebuild into an aircraft.
